THE WORDS THAT CREATE A GAP

SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE

It is a phrase we use often, almost without thinking: “The Lord is coming.” We say it in prayer. We say it in worship. We say it when we are waiting for an answer, for a breakthrough, for help. But every time we speak those words — even with the best of intentions — we unknowingly place Him far away. We speak as though He is on a journey, as though He is delayed, as though He is somewhere else and has not yet arrived. And that — is not the truth.

Distance is not a reality for Him — it is only a limitation in our thinking. To say He is coming implies He is not here. To speak of Him as on His way implies He is absent from where we stand. And that — is wrong.

“Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off? Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.” — Jeremiah 23:23–24

If He fills heaven and earth — there is nowhere for Him to travel to. There is no distance to cross. There is no “here” that He is not already present in. He does not come — because He never left. He is not approaching — because He is already here.

📖 THE DISCIPLES LOOKED — WHILE HE STOOD BESIDE THEM

The disciples made this same mistake. They walked with Jesus, ate with Him, saw His miracles — yet they were still looking for God to arrive. On the night before the cross, Philip said to Him: “Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.” And Jesus answered with gentle, loving correction:

“Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?” — John 14:9

They were standing in His very presence — yet they were still looking for Him to come. They were walking beside Him — yet they were still waiting for Him to draw near. This is our struggle too — we look for God to show up, while He is already right beside us. We pray “Lord, come into this situation” — while He is already in it. We ask Him to “be here” — while He has never left.

🔄 WHAT THE PHRASE “HE IS COMING” ACTUALLY DOES

When we habitually speak and think as though He is still on His way, we do more than misspeak — we shape our whole reality around a lie:

❌ We create a gap that does not exist. We build a wall of distance between us and Him — a wall He never built.

❌ We delay our peace. We think we cannot have help until He arrives — while He is already a very present help in trouble.

❌ We limit His power. We speak as though He cannot work until He gets here — while He is already active in every moment.

❌ We misunderstand His nature. He is not bound by time or space. He does not move from place to place — He is in all places at once.

❌ We miss the present help. He is not coming to help later; He is here to help now.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1

Present help — not future help. Near — not far. Here — not coming. The verse does not say “He will be a help when He arrives.” It says He is — right now — a very present help.

🕊️ THE TRUTH THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING

The great revelation is not that God can come — but that He has never left. He is not waiting in the distance — He is standing right beside you. He is not preparing to draw near — He has already drawn near.

“For in him we live, and move, and have our being… for we are also his offspring.” — Acts 17:28

We do not need to persuade Him to come — we only need to awaken to the fact that He is already here. We do not need to travel to find Him — we only need to turn our hearts toward the One who has never moved away.

When we truly see this — everything shifts. We stop looking up, waiting for Him to descend — and we start looking within and around us, seeing Him everywhere. We stop saying “He is coming” — and we start saying “He is here.”

Instead of: “Lord, come into this situation.”
Try saying: “Lord, I see You are already here — move, work, reveal Yourself.”

Instead of: “I’m waiting for God to show up.”
Try saying: “He is already here — I am waiting to see Him more clearly.”

Instead of: “He is on His way.”
Try saying: “He is already here — and He is moving.”

This does not mean He never reveals Himself in new ways, or that He does not manifest more deeply — but He is always present before He reveals Himself. The sun does not rise — it is always shining; the earth simply turns to see it. So it is with Him — He is always here; we are the ones learning to turn and see Him.

“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.” — James 4:8

Notice — He does not say “wait for God to draw nigh” — He says draw nigh to Him. Why? Because He is already close. He has not moved away. We are the ones who have been looking in the wrong direction — waiting for Him to come, while He has been standing beside us all along.

🙏 DECLARATION

I declare — I will no longer put God at a distance with my words or my thoughts. He is not coming — He is already here. He is not far away — He is closer than my own breath. He does not need to travel to reach me — He fills all things and is right here. I will not wait for Him to arrive — I will open my eyes to see He has never left. He is Emmanuel — God with me, now, always, in every moment, in every situation. I speak of Him as present, near, and here — because that is the truth. In Jesus’ name — AMEN.

✨ CONCLUSION

The greatest shift we can make is in our thinking — and in our words. He is not coming. He is here. He has been here all along. The distance we feel is not between us and Him — it is between our understanding and the truth. He is not far off. He is not delayed. He is not on His way. He is already in the room. Already in the moment. Already in the situation.

To say “He is coming” is to put Him at a distance — and that is wrong. To say “He is here” is to speak the truth — and that truth changes everything.

“Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.” — Matthew 28:20

He did not say “I will come to you.” He said “I am with you.” He is here. Right now. Always.
