๐ฌ๏ธ WIND โ THE ELEMENT OF THE SPIRIT
From the SCHOOL ๐ซ OF EXCELLENCE โจ
๐ INTRODUCTION
Of the four elements that make up our world โ Earth, Water, Fire, and Wind โ one stands apart as unique. Earth can be seen and held. Water can be measured and contained. Fire can be kindled and controlled. But Wind โ Wind is different. It cannot be seen, it cannot be held, it cannot be contained. Yet its power is undeniable.
It is no accident that Jesus chose wind to describe the Holy Spirit. When Nicodemus asked Him about the new birth, Jesus answered with these profound words: “The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” (John 3:8)
Wind is not merely an element of nature โ it is the only element that carries the spiritual realm within itself. It is the bridge between what is seen and what is unseen. It is the physical manifestation of the invisible God. To understand Wind is to understand the very nature of the Spirit.
๐น ONE WORD โ WIND, BREATH, SPIRIT
This is not a coincidence โ it is Godโs design, written into the very language of Scripture. In both Hebrew and Greek, the same word means Wind, Breath, and Spirit. In Hebrew, Ruach means all three. In Greek, Pneuma means all three. God wove this truth into the very words He gave us.
When God created man, He formed him from the dust of the earth โ but man did not become a living being until God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. (Genesis 2:7) The body was earth โ but the life was Breath, which is Wind, which is Spirit. When Jesus appeared to His disciples after His resurrection, “He breathed on them, and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.'” (John 20:22) He did not give them a stone, or water, or fire โ He breathed on them. Because the Spirit is Breath โ and Breath is Wind.
The same word โ the same essence โ the same reality. Wind is the physical manifestation of what the Spirit is in the invisible realm. Jesus did not choose wind by accident โ He chose it because it is the only thing in the natural world that truly reveals what the spiritual realm is like.
๐น INVISIBLE โ BUT UNDENIABLE
“The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” โ John 3:8
You never see the wind itself โ only what it moves. You see trees bending, waves rising, clouds racing, dust lifting. You cannot point to the wind and say “There it is” โ yet you know beyond doubt that it is there. So it is with the Spirit. You do not see Him โ but you see what He does. Lives change. Hearts soften. Hope returns. Courage rises. Peace comes where there was chaos. The effects are undeniable โ even when the Source is unseen.
The world says: “If I can’t see it, it isn’t real.” God says: “Because you cannot see it, it is most real of all.” Faith is not believing what you see โ it is seeing what cannot be seen, because you see its effects. You trust the wind because you feel it โ you trust the Spirit because you experience Him.
๐น WIND GIVES LIFE โ THE OTHERS CANNOT
Each element has its purpose โ but only Wind can breathe life into what is dead. Earth without wind becomes dust, dry and dead. Water without wind becomes stagnant, stale, and poisonous. Fire without wind smolders and dies out. But Wind โ Wind breathes life into all of them. It carries the breath of God into every corner.
In Ezekielโs vision of the dry bones, the bones were there โ the earth was there โ but they could not live until the Wind came. “Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe into these slain, that they may live.” (Ezekiel 37:9) The body is earth โ but the breath is the Spirit. Without the wind of the Spirit, everything remains dead. No amount of religious activity, no amount of good works, no amount of knowledge โ can replace the Breath of God.
Only Wind โ only the Spirit โ can bring what is dead back to life. That is why Jesus said: “Unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” (John 3:5) The water cleanses โ but the Wind gives life.
๐น SOVEREIGN AND FREE โ NO ONE CONTROLS THE WIND
You can build a dam for water. You can build a furnace for fire. You can build walls for earth. But you cannot build a wall for the wind. It goes where it wills โ no one commands it, no one restricts it, no one fully understands it. That is the spiritual realm โ sovereign, free, untamable. You cannot command the Spirit โ you must yield to Him. You do not catch the wind โ you set your sails and let it carry you.
Many Christians try to control God โ to box Him in, to predict His moves, to dictate His timing. But the Spirit is like the Wind โ He does not ask permission to blow. He is already moving โ often before we are ready. Our job is not to control the Wind โ but to open our sails so that when it blows, we move with it. When you stop trying to control the Spirit and start yielding to Him โ that is when you begin to truly live.
๐น PENTECOST โ THE WIND ARRIVES
“Suddenly a sound like a mighty rushing wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.” โ Acts 2:2
When the Holy Spirit was poured out at Pentecost โ He came first as Wind. Not as earth, not as water, not as fire โ first as Wind, filling the entire house. The wind announced His arrival โ and then the fire appeared above each one. Wind comes first โ then fire. The Spirit comes first โ then His presence. The Wind filled the whole house โ just as the Spirit fills the whole earth. There is no corner He cannot reach, no place He cannot enter.
The disciples did not create the wind โ they did not work it up, they did not manufacture it. It came from heaven โ and it filled them. That is the nature of the Spirit โ He is a gift, sent from above, not something we generate from below. We do not make the Wind blow โ we simply position ourselves so that when it blows, we are filled.
๐ CONCLUSION
Earth is the body. Water is the blood. Fire is the passion. But Wind โ Wind is the Spirit.
Wind is the only element that belongs to both the natural and the spiritual realm. It was there at creation. It gives life to what is dead. It cannot be controlled โ yet it carries the very presence of God. That is why Jesus chose wind โ because it is the only thing on earth that truly shows what the spiritual realm is like.
“By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of His mouth all their host.” (Psalm 33:6) The breath of God is the wind of creation โ and it is the Spirit of life. You are not meant to merely know about the Wind โ you are meant to be filled by it, carried by it, and moved by it. Open your life today. Let the Breath of God fill you. Let the Wind of the Spirit carry you. For where the Wind blows โ there is life. And where the Spirit is โ there is freedom.
“So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” โ John 3:8
