Teaching Segment: Two Trees — One Choice, One Story

📌 CORE TRUTH

Two trees, two paths, two destinies — this choice defines the whole story of Scripture, and the path back to God’s original design.

“See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction.” — Deuteronomy 30:15

“Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life.” — Revelation 22:14

📖 THE GARDEN PATTERN — THE BEGINNING

Genesis 2–3

• At the centre stood two exclusive trees:
  ✅ The Tree of Life: Open, free, and intended for constant eating — representing dependence, fellowship, and life flowing directly from God.
  ❌ The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil: Restricted — representing independence, self‑rule, and deciding right and wrong apart from the Creator.
• The Tragedy: They were never barred from Life — yet they traded the free, enduring gift of God’s presence for the knowledge that brings separation, struggle, and death.
• The Consequence: Access guarded; the way back closed — until the Redeemer came.

📜 THIS CHOICE RUNS THROUGH THE WHOLE BIBLE

From Genesis to Revelation, every generation faces the same decision:

🔹 Old Testament — Lessons & Shadows

• Cain vs Abel: Works/self‑effort vs faith/relationship
• Law & Wisdom: The fear of the Lord = beginning of wisdom (Life path); doing what is right in one’s own eyes = separation (Knowledge path)
• Israel at Sinai: Called to live by His word; often chose to pattern themselves after the nations — choosing their own way
• Proverbs re‑echoes Eden: “She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her” — Wisdom is the true access point to Life.

🔹 New Testament — The Choice Fulfilled & Restored

• Jesus is the True Tree of Life:
  ✝️ Through His death: Took the penalty of our wrong choice
  ⚰️ Through His burial: Laid the old independent nature to rest
  ✨ Through His resurrection: Re‑opened the way — the flaming sword removed, access restored
• Revelation completes the circle:
  “Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life… On each side of the river stood the tree of life… And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.” — Revelation 22:1–2
  We return exactly to the beginning — as it was in the beginning, so shall it be at the end.

💡 PRACTICAL APPLICATION

• Daily Choice: Every time you decide — “Will I trust His word and stay connected to Him, or decide for myself what is right?” — you are standing before the same two trees.
• Grace & Reverence: True grace does not mean “I decide”; it means “I trust and abide in Him” — feeding daily from His presence and His Word.
• Balanced Study: Reading Old and New together keeps you clear on the pattern and the way back.

🗣️ DECLARATION

“I choose the Tree of Life — Jesus Christ Himself — my source, my wisdom, and my strength. I reject the way of independence and self‑rule. Through His death, burial, and resurrection, access is restored; I abide in Him, fed by His Word, walking in the path of life exactly as God intended from the beginning.”

🙏 PRAYER

Father, thank You that You never changed Your plan — You only paid the price to restore it. I choose the Tree of Life today. Keep me from leaning to my own understanding or deciding good and evil apart from You. Root me deep in Your presence and Your Word, so I may walk the path of life and show forth Your original design. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
