“That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as corners, polished after the similitude of a palace:”

Polished = Trained, Refined, Perfected.
You were rough stone, raw material — God chiselled, smoothed, polished you in His School until you became a pillar fit for His palace, excellent in strength and beauty.

“Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.”

Furnace = The Fire of Training.
Gold is put in fire only to remove impurities, not to destroy it.
God put you through fire, pressure, hard times NOT to break you — BUT TO MAKE YOU EXCELLENT, PURE, VALUABLE, AND FIT FOR KINGSHIP.
As in natural, so in spiritual: You do not get pure gold without fire; you do not get an excellent person without training.
